Rocky Mount, NC – October 27, 2020 – Bin & Barrel Wine Bar and Bottles along with the help of the Rocky Mount Chamber of Commerce has launched a new funding source to help support small businesses affected by Covid-19 in the Downtown Rocky Mount Area called The Downtown Entrepreneur Growth Fund.
The fund was created to help support small businesses affected during this time that need a financial bridge to help support their business. As small businesses are the backbone of any community, this fund will help support those that have continued to open their doors to serve our community even when they were not having a great financial year.
Sarah, owner of Bin & Barrel Wine Bar and Bottles stated “Over this past year we have watched as our neighbors suffered, and some still suffering, due to the Covid-19 crisis, and many did not receive or did not qualify for federal funding. As a community, we should want to see our Downtown grow and thrive, and sometimes we all need a little help to get there.”
This fund will be supported from donations and in-kind sponsorship from community partners and others. Throughout the month of November, Bin & Barrel Wine Bar and Bottles plan on hosting several events and raffles with all proceeds going towards the Downtown Entrepreneur Growth Fund.

Recruitment opportunities continue through the year as retail sales are showing growth in our two-county Rocky Mount MSA.
Through the first half of 2020, consumer spending has risen by 8.7 % with the state of North Carolina showing a 3.3% decline. Over the coming months and into 2021 look for expansion in these market sectors, Pharma industry to include expansion within pharmacies. CVS to double their square footage on Benvenue Road. Growth in Convenient stores will continue and likely see two additional locations in our city over coming year. Family Fare currently under construction adjacent to Gardner’s BBQ on Hwy 301 N.
The Grocery industries will expand with current trend showing food at home (grocery Retail) out-performing food away from home(restaurant). “Retail has proven to be one of the United States’ most dependable industries. Depending on how the data is categorized, it is either the country’s first or second-largest employer. Despite the rise of e-commerce, the long-term trajectory has been growth for retail sales and jobs.”
Consumer spending for all cities, counties and states as well as our country is a leading indicator of economic vitality. Retail through consumer spending represents 70 % of the United States economy. Consumer spending is keeping the US from shrinking. Rocky Mount MSA through 1st. half of 2020 shows an increase 8.7% while state of North Carolina has declined 3.3%.
Completed options on 250 acres commercial property at intersection of Interstate I-95 & Interstate I-87.
This intersection will ensure future growth for entire area with a population draw in excess of one million consumers in a sixty-minute drive time. Project 95 received approval for new access from Sunset ave. into the southwest quadrant of I-95 and I-87. We will now have the infrastructure necessary to move forward with attracting developers as well as businesses that can increase our consumer spending by projected 15 to 18 percent. This increase in tax base will assist our community in realizing more investment into quality of life projects and protect our position as the principle city in our four-county market, Nash, Edgecombe. Wilson and Halifax counties with a 300,000 population draw.
Working close with CGP to insure new economic vitality into the Gold Rock area of our city generated from the CSX Project. The new investment has already allowed me the opportunity to create along with CGP a Global Logistic Park on 117 acres located at Gold Rock. This land has the infrastructure and the location that will enable opportunity to recruit and encourage much needed warehousing to benefit the CSX Intermodal.
The strategic location of our community adds opportunity for future growth
The Rocky Mount Area Chamber through Business Recruitment in partnership with our city, is preserving and contributing to our cities and counties future growth in expansion.
The most major North South route in the US, Interstate 95, lies at the western edge of our city and is an attraction to retailers and developers, creating increased access to that area of development.
In addition, the renaming of our most major east west corridor US 64 to Interstate 87 are linking areas of dense population west, such as; Raleigh, the fastest growing city in America, Charlotte the Greensboro Triad area and the research Triangle. This East-west corridor connects us to the Greater Outer Banks. This major intersection located in Rocky Mount, NC I-95 and I-87 will now have the ability to maximize our consumer spending through better access to our community while creating a quicker drive time capturing over 1 million people in a 60 minute drive. This opportunity is consider attractive by large retailers and will bring increased tax revenues to our city and two-county area while providing support for new quality of life projects across our two county area, as well as those that already exist, such as the Rocky Mount downtime revitalization producing the Event Center, the sports complex, the Rocky Mount Imperial Center housing our arts center, community theater and museum and much more.
The intent is to bring in new opportunities through retail development that will complement downtown areas from the east to Tarboro and west to Nashville, encouraging more overnight stays that provides more than spending the night but captures increased consumer spending. Recent study performed has demonstrated that we could see a 15 to 18 percent increase in retail sales by capturing interstate travel.

Small shops marketplace is a 30,000 square-foot marketplace where local business people and entrepreneurs and crafts people and artists set up shop to offer their wares to the folks of Eastern North Carolina.
Small Shops Marketplace is a grouping of dozens of local businesses and entrepreneurs. People from all kinds of business backgrounds and experience levels have come together to provide the community with a one stop shop for an absolutely amazing variety of products. People come into the store, put in an application, and from there an area of their choosing is marked to become their microstore. They have their own setups, displays, pricing structure, and of course their own products. After setting everything up, they simply go home. Small Shops Marketplace has its own dedicated staff. Products are sold through our centralized registers, and the sales are credited to each respective Shop Owner. Shop Owners restock their spaces on a near weekly basis, and some shuffle their stock quite often. Be sure to stop by regularly to catch the best deals and products first!
