CHAMBER TO EMBARK ON NEW MEMBER CAMPAIGN

The Chamber will embark on an aggressive new member campaign beginning April 8 and continuing through May 20, 2008. The campaign is themed The Locomotion, representing The Chamber’s location at the historic Downtown Train Station and its work in the community to maintain a healthy economy and forward Local Motion. Growing member ranks is key in any membership organization and especially so with The Chamber.

With almost 5,000 businesses in the area we know we have huge opportunity to grow our membership, and thus grow our ability to better serve the Rocky Mount area. Since 1904, The Chamber has been a partner for progress working at the heart of issues that have helped to propel our community forward. Your Chamber stands ready as the leading strategic community partner - guided by area leaders representing both large and small businesses, to continue this momentum of community progress with job creation through business recruitment, with positive impact to matters of great importance for our area and with support of our emerging quality of life.

We are a civic-minded community and it is through this philosophy that we have earned the name of a "Can-Do City of the new South". The Chamber and its members represent a collective effort to bring positive change to Rocky Mount – an investment in a better future for all citizens and continuous local motion for our community.

The new member campaign will be directed by Co-Chairs Howard Jackson, Vice Chair of the Chamber’s Membership Development division and Pastor of Grace Covenant Church, and Immediate Past Chairman of The Chamber, Russell L. Proctor, III with SmithBarney. Both of these individuals have given tirelessly of their time in recent years to insure Chamber growth and service to the Rocky Mount area, and each has a passion for investing in the future of our community.

"It is not the buildings and structure of our community that sustains a great environment for progress and growth, it is through the power of people that we achieve our highest potential and our greatest successes," stated Jackson. "When there are more people our voice becomes stronger and our efforts more united."

Proctor added, "Our past has been greatly impacted through the involvement of an active business community and its leadership. Our challenge will be shaping the future through involvement from a broader base, a base that is more diverse and inclusive of our current and next generation of business owners."

The six week campaign will involve approximately 50 volunteers, representing many area businesses, who will canvas the community to encourage investment in the area through Chamber membership; and the campaign will be supported by billboards and local media. Please take a minute to thank the following volunteers and their businesses for their time in this important endeavor.
