Chamber Hosts Annual State Of Community Forum And Luncheon

The Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual State of Community Update and Luncheon program on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at the Business and Industry Center on the campus of Nash Community College. The program begins promptly at 11:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon and keynote address ending at approximately 1:15 p.m.

According to Chamber Chairman Russell Proctor, this year's event is all about looking forward.

"This year's update will include panel presentations that will be a snapshot of our current status in a number of key areas such as economic development, education and quality of life. Our panelists will discuss where we are, and more importantly, where we need to be," Proctor noted.

He noted that the program will be upbeat in nature, citing the many signs of an improving local economy and a new celebration of our quality of life.

"While our program will clearly focus on the many positive aspects of life in the Twin Counties, each presenter is charged with leaving the audience with thought provoking challenges for the future," Proctor added.

Panelists on the 2007 forum program include the following community leaders:

Presenting updates on education are Rick McMahon, Nash-Rocky Mount Schools; Dr. Bill Carver, Nash Community College; Charlie Harrell, Edgecombe Community College; Dr. Ian Newbould, NC Wesleyan College; and Marilynn Anselmi, Gateway Technology Center. A question and answer session moderated by Proctor will follow.

The luncheon program will begin at 12:15 p.m. and will include remarks by Rocky Mount businessman Bob Gorham, who will provide a progress report on the newly formed "Alliance for Our Community" initiative.
