RIZZO IS KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR NEER ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR AWARDS BANQUET
Paul J. Rizzo, Chairman of the Board and a Partner in Franklin Street Partners, will be the keynote speaker at the eighth annual Northeastern Entrepreneur Roundtable (NEER) on Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at the Carleton House in Rocky Mount.
From 1987 - 1992, Rizzo served as the dean of the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to becoming dean and for the two years immediately following his tenure as dean, he was Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the IBM Corporation
Rizzo joined IBM in 1958 and become Vice President of Corporate Finance and Planning in 1970. He was elected to the IBM Board of Directors in 1972 and was elected Vice Chairman of the Board in 1983. He retired from IBM in 1987 to serve as dean of the Kenan-Flagler Business School until 1992.
He returned to serve as Vice Chairman at IBM in early 1993 and continued on the Board until his second retirement in December 1994. Rizzo earned his BSA degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition to his participation in the Franklin Street Partners, he also serves as a director of several other corporations.
Blalock added that sponsorship support represents a significant percentage of the Chamber's annual income, noting that success of the sales campaign is vital to the organization's ongoing programs.
Mayo Boddie, Sr., chairman of the NorthEastern Entrepreneur Roundtable (NEER), previously announced the names of the five finalist companies for the 2002 NEER Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
"We received over 20 qualified nominations for this year's Entrepreneur of the Year Award competition. Our selection committee had a difficult time choosing our finalists for this honor, but we believe we have chosen five outstanding candidates," commented Boddie.
The five finalist companies are Bailey's Fine Jewelry, Builder's Discount Center, Chambliss & Rabil Contractors and Daughtridge Oil & Gas Company of Rocky Mount and Kanban Logistics of Tarboro. The winner will be announced at the Eighth Annual Entrepreneur of the Year Banquet sponsored by NEER on Tuesday, May in Rocky Mount.
