B. Mayo Boddie, Sr., Chairman of the NorthEastern Entrepreneurial Roundtable (NEER), has announced that as part of its meeting at 5:30PM on Tuesday, March 26 at the Carleton House in Rocky Mount, Canadian entrepreneur Barbara Mowat will be the guest speaker.
"We are fortunate that RBC Centura has arranged for Ms. Mowat to help us re-launch our 2002 NEER meeting schedule," Boddie commented. "We hope that as many current and prospective business owners as possible from throughout northeastern North Carolina will take the time to join us."
NEER was started in 1995 as an organization to help foster the entrepreneurial spirit in northeastern North Carolina. It is an organization of successful business people who are committed to helping others start new companies.
"NEER offers support to people who already own a small business or who are thinking about starting one become more prosperous. One of the best ways a struggling business can become more self-sustaining is to seek the advice of experts. We are very proud that NEER's core membership is comprised of successful entrepreneurs as well as members who have accounting, financial, legal and marketing expertise to share with others," Boddie further noted.
The topic of Barbara Mowat's presentation will be, "I've Started This Business... Now What?" She has over 30 years experience being a business owner and operator of three companies and she is currently president and owner of Impact Communications Limited, a multi-faceted consulting company involved in management training, publishing and trade show management.
She has written a program for entrepreneurs called Your Business Matters: Strategic Growth. During the NEER meeting she will provide information from this two hour presentation to help small business owners by addressing many of the questions most entrepreneurs face including what is the growth trap and how do I avoid it, should I sell my business, how do I hire the right team, should I diversify and how can technology help grow my business?
Among her many career milestones, Barbara Mowat was the winner of the 1993 Canadian Women Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the category of Impact on the Local Economy. She has also been awarded the Commemorative medal for the 125th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation, which recognized her significant role in the home-based business growth phenomenon.
In the past few years Barbara Mowat's name has become synonymous in Canada with raising the profile of home-based businesses. Being home-based herself, she practices what she promotes about the pre-eminence of quality, the empowerment achieved through self-help and the mutual benefits of business networking. By following her advice, thousands of would-be-entrepreneurs in Canada have launched their own self-sustaining business from scratch.
The meeting has been designed to begin promptly at 5:30PM. One of the NEER's goals will be to rejuvenate its membership and to announce the scheduling of four meetings each year. After the official meeting a business networking opportunity is being offered.
"Following the Hurricane Floyd flood, the focus of our NEER members was on the rebuilding of Northeastern North Carolina's business community so we stopped having regular meetings. Instead our focus became the annual spring NEER Entrepreneur of the Year Banquet where we recognize those business leaders in our area who have taken risks and successfully launched their own companies here in our region," Boddie commented.
"But now, we are now ready for NEER to become an active organization again. We believe there is an important role our organization can play in helping our part of the state grow and prosper in this early part of the 21st century," concluded Boddie.
