CHAMBER TO CONDUCT THIRD ANNUAL STATE OF THE COMMUNITY UPDATE

Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce Chairman Gus Tulloss has announced the third annual State of the Community Update and Luncheon scheduled for Thursday, March 14, 2002, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Nash Community College Business and Industry Center.

The event will highlight remarks and updates on the local economy in general (Rocky Mount Mayor Fred Turnage); on health care issues (President of Nash Health Care Systems Rick Toomey); on Nash County (Chairman of Nash County Commissioners Claude Mayo and Nash County Manager Bob Murphy); on Edgecombe County (Chairman of Edgecombe County Commissioners Charlie Harrell and Edgecombe County Manager Lorenzo Carmon); on the City of Rocky Mount (City Manager Steve Raper); on the Golden L.E.A.F., Inc. (President Valeria Lee); on industrial recruitment and business development (Carolinas Gateway Partnership President John Gessaman); and on the Universal Leaf project (President of Universal Leaf U.S. Operations Keith Brewer).

According to Tulloss, "This is an important day in the life of our community for our citizens to learn from the leadership in our communities and become informed about the current status of special projects as well as the future plans for progressive growth in the Twin County area."

"This is an opportunity to learn first-hand about ways that our local individuals and entities partner on community and public projects, economic development, downtown development, business recruitment, job creation and retention, and health care initiatives," added Chairman Tulloss. "Join us as we focus on strategies to move us forward into the future."

The agenda for the event includes the community update from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon followed by lunch. Keynote speaker will be Mitchell J. Rothkopf, Vice President of Portfolio Analysis and Consulting Services of Fidelity Investments. His comments will focus on the recession, the recovery, the outlook for the tech sector, and a review of conditions in the global capital markets and ways in which they impact portfolio investment strategy.

The Community Update and Luncheon is sponsored by the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce, Nash Community College, and Roger Taylor & Associates.
