Business, industry and education leaders joined with representatives from the North Carolina Department of Labor to receive a briefing on Apprenticeship 2000 from Gernoth Dolinar, Julius Blum executive from the Charlotte area. Apprenticeship 2000 has been an effective tool for Julius Blum and five other companies to meet their needs for a prepared, skilled workforce in six trade areas: Tool & Die Maker, CNC - Machinist, Plastics Technician/Mold Maker, Quality Technician and Electronics Technician.
Gernoth Dolinar and NC Department of Labor representative Tim Eldridge, were invited to Rocky Mount by Larry Crisafulli, Inco, Inc. to determine if Apprenticeship 2000 is an appropriate tool for workforce development in our twin county community. Apprenticeship 2000 begins with rising seniors in high school and would conclude after an 8,000 hour training program where 6,000 hours are hands-on in companies and 2,000 hours of related classroom instruction at the community college. Students would earn as Manufacturing Technology Degree upon completion.
