Technology

2011 saw a massive eight-month, multimillion-dollar network upgrade project for the city of Rocky Mount and Nash and Edgecombe Counties.  The project involved building and upgrading nearly 1,500 miles of cable and fiber-optic lines across Suddenlink Communication's North Carolina operations, which included approximately 650 miles in the Rocky Mount area.

Citizens now enjoy an expanded array of services, such as video on demand, more than 80 high-definition channels, and faster internet speeds of up to 50 Megabits per second, and transition to an all-digital lineup that provides superior picture and sound quality.

The area is supported in its reach for technology development by
Edgecombe and Nash Community Colleges, our 4-year institution - NC Wesleyan College, and Shaw University, a private institution of undergraduate and graduate study based in Raleigh, also operates a remove campus in Rocky Mount as part of its College of Adult and Professional Education (CAPE), and most recently through a partnership endeavor created under the Gateway Technology Center for distance learning and advanced degrees to support continued development in the technology arena for citizens and businesses.  The Carolinas Gateway Parnership, the areas economic development entity for the Twin Counties, as well as the Chamber, work to bring jobs relevant to the growing technology sector for area citizens.
