Other Boards and Commissions she has served on include:  NC Juvenile Code Revision Commission, NC Commission to establish an Independent Board for North Carolina Community College System, NC Task Force on Rural Prosperity, NC Rural Economic Development Corporation, and the NC State Board of Cummunity College.

Receiving many awards and recognitions is not an unusual thing for such an outstanding citizen as Mrs. Turnage.  She has been awared the Who's Who in Education, NC Association of Educators Award of Distinction, Boy Scouts of American Distinguished Citizens Award, and the Order of Long Leaf Pine Recipient presented by Governor James B. Hunt.

A member of Lakeside Baptist Church for 48 years has also afforded her many opportunities of service to her church where she has served on the Board of Deacons, Chair Board Member on the Finance, Personnel, & Music Committee, and the Pastoral Search Committee.  She recently chaired the Organ Committee, which was responsible for acquisitions and installation of new pipe organ.

We appreciate the many contributions made by this amazing woman and count it a privilege to present Norma B. Turnage with the Distinguished Citizen Award for 2010.
